FAQs
ChipX is the first ever platform for trading microchip and other technology assets so that investors can speculate on prices and buyers and producers can hedge. ChipX will also democratize the design of microchips using DeSci (crowd-design) and the tokenization of chips to bring these key global assets into DeFi.
The ChipX Memory Chip Index is a benchmark created by ChipX to allow both speculators and microchip buyers/suppliers to trade and hedge the price of a basket of memory chip prices.
All modern technology runs on microchips, and specifically memory chips: everything from AI to cell phones, from automobiles to fighter jets, from home appliances to nuclear reactors. EVERYTHING runs on computer chips. And, as we saw during COVID, even minor disruptions in chip supply chains can affect both manufacturers, consumers, and the economy as a whole, causing huge spikes in both chip prices, as well as the products that require those chips.
A semiconductor, most commonly made of silicon, is a material with electrical conductivity in between that of a conductor and an insulator. It can conduct electricity under certain conditions, making it ideal for controlling electrical currents in devices like transistors, diodes, and integrated circuits.
According to Precedence Research, the Integrated Circuit market is estimated to be worth USD 800 Billion in 2025, and will top USD 1.3 Trillion by 2029.
DRAM (or “Dynamic Random Access Memory”) is the primary "working memory" in computers. When you open applications, browse the internet, or work on documents, DRAM temporarily stores the data that your computer's processor needs to access quickly.
NAND (or “Not-AND”) flash memory is a type of non-volatile storage technology that retains data even when power is turned off. It is widely used in devices like SSDs, USB flash drives, memory for photos on smartphones and digital cameras, memory cards, and operating systems on various devices.
A Fab (short for “fabrication facility”) is a specialized factory where semiconductor devices, such as integrated circuits (ICs) and microchips, are manufactured. Fabs turn raw silicon wafers into functional chips. Fabs require highly controlled environments, known as cleanrooms, to prevent contamination that can ruin the chips being produced. Many countries are currently in a geopolitical race to attract Fabs to their countries and bring their highly-specialized manufacturing technology with them.
